IPC–The Hospitalist Company announced today that it has expanded into Ocala, Florida, through the acquisition of locally based Hospital Care Providers, Inc.

(OCALA, FL – January 23, 2006) — IPC–The Hospitalist Company announced today that it has expanded into Ocala, Florida, through the acquisition of locally based Hospital Care Providers, Inc.
Hospital Care Providers (HCP) has been providing hospitalist services in Ocala for the past six years, seeing a steady growth in volume during that time. The eight providers in HCP, all of whom have now joined IPC, assist more than 30 local primary care physicians in caring for hospitalized patients at all three hospitals in the Ocala area: Munroe Regional Medical Center, Ocala Regional Medical Center and West Marion Community Hospital (the latter two HCA facilities).
“Joining IPC provides us with a strong infrastructure that will allow us to better serve patients and physicians in the area,” said HCP Medical Director Mike Doerflein, M.D. “IPC’s information technology systems are superior in allowing us to exchange information and communicate with referring physicians. We were also impressed with IPC’s ability to recruit physicians and provide unparalleled training and mentoring for hospitalists.”
IPC first entered Florida with the development of practices in Jacksonville in January 2005 and in Tampa a month later. Over the past year, the company has gone from start-up to employing 44 physicians who account for more than 130,000 annualized patient visits.
“We are very pleased with our growth in Florida over this past year and with the confidence physicians, hospitals and patients have shown in our team,” said IPC Executive Director Larry Hanan. “Florida is an excellent marketplace with enormous growth potential, and we are continuing to aggressively recruit quality-minded physicians so we can keep up with the growing demand for our services.”
